The Saga Of My Adventures In 1/270 (3MM ish) & 1/100 (15MM-HO/87th) Scale Sculpting, and Related Scale Terrain Modeling. In the waste and below the ancient cities, there are few beings which inspire mortals to pray for death unseen...then that thing which can devour living flesh and revel in the vile feast...The Dreaded Whurg.
A Word On Desing. The Whurg are going to have seperat arms and weapons so that collectors can pose them to make up small units. I am going to do three bodies for this creature type. This is the first piece which of course Masters will be cast from to do the other two versions.
I will post more previews of other Monsters and updates on The Whurg soon.
I do not watch Television at all...period. I am not a news guy, so I look things up on the Internet and do my own research...anyhow. I had not heard this until tonight when I decided to hunt up a few of my bands to see if any of them had a new video or perhaps an album coming soon. I was looking up Type O Negative among others, and while I own all of their work...everything...I knew it was getting about time for Peter and the gang from Brooklyn to put out a new album because they do one every two or three years. I stumbled on a little YouTube video stating that Peter Steele, the main man behind Type-O, had died at age 48.
I am not going to say much else about this, but if you are even remotely interested in Dark, Strong, Passionate, and Intelligent music...I invite you to check out some of the work from one of my favorite bands of all time... TYPE O NEGATIVE.
As my friends here know I am all about sculpting cool shit that no one else is doing...not in this scale. I have been planning to do some very serious Vampires and Werewolves, which relates to my love for Type O Negative's work. Peter wrote many heartfelt and eerie songs about Vampires and Werewolves, among other mysterious and provocative topics. I had a few people in mind for the models for these sculptures, Pete was at the top of the list. Now that I have learned of this gentile giants death, I am going to do a Peter Steele Tribute figure.
This all might sound crazy to people who do not know who Peter Steele was. What is the big deal Joe...right? The best thing I can tell you is simply this: to many of us Autumn-Winter people, who enjoy the Darker Side of life, Big Green Pete was as important to us as John Lennon and Elvis Presley are to the main stream pop culture.
I have been in the mode to work on my bigger models this month, because they need a hell of a lot of work, and I want to get them done this year. You can expect regular updates on these works. I started the base for The Bio Titan and the arms. The arms are just wire at this point, and I have some brass sheeting cut to do some sexy base details like ruined walls and similar battlefield debris...but not to much to document at this time. I will post all of these components in Preview 3.
This is a collection of art that I am looking at for inspiration and musculature reference. Please keep in mind that I am NOT doing The Bio Titan to look just like this art. I am sharing these images with you to give you a bit of flavor and a general idea of what I am doing.
I took a little break today from my sculpting and finally got to work on the other side of The Dead Road Battlefield. This is the 24Hour Stop that is going to be next to The Hotel.
The Pump Island is one of the best HO Scale Models I have seen recently. I love this little bit of detail.
The Store is a fun model too. I am going to put all kinds of detail on this building.
The inside is a pain in the ass...lol...I have a lot to do to this area. I am going to keep the top free so I can have little explorations and fights inside. I have to fill in the floor, and do a good bit of inner wall work, such as more shelves and loose debris...the fun stuff.
My love of Random Monsters is responsible for this series of WIP Previews. I am currently working on about six Monsters. Some of these creatures will be large beast encountered as lone predators, while others will be smaller and likely encountered in groups.
The Grizzought is a lion sized beast which haunts the remote places of The NAC Dominion. These dreaded hunters are stealthy, fast, and very powerful. The hide of an adult Grizz is virtually impervious to commonly used Ballistic Weapons, making them a great threat to the average well equipped travellers.
A Word On Design. The Grizzought have a long horny mace-like tail, which will be seperate for the sake of casting. I am almost finished with this sculpture, so the next time you see him, he will be ready for Molding and Master Casting.
The Northern American Combine (NAC) are the most powerful and widespread of The New World Order. NAC Keeps The Peace with many TECH Nation Mechs. The most commonly deployed of these powerful machines are War Striders.
This is a simple little compiled image to give you an idea of the size of a Strider.
Here are the base parts I am working on. Notice that I am only doing one leg. This is going to be very detailed, and will include Anti Assault Mines ans a Pulse Laser mounted in the knee.
Here are some other Spider and Tri-Legged Mechs which give you an idea of what I am going for with this model.
A Word On Design. The War Strider will have several Weapon Options.
What I stated a few days ago about The BIO TITAN, holds true for this large model also. Now that I have this piece more or less based out, I am going to work on it often.
I will post regular updates on this model and preview The NAC Death Droug soon.
Hail Brothers. For any of you who have not checked the TW-15Blog, I have been working on a few Human figures for the current Juggers (Gladiators) Arena Project. The first models I am making are a group of Arena Staff. These models have been designed to serve a dual purpose as Adventurers. I am going to make several little groups like this for Tabletop RPG Adventures.
The Weekly One Five has been a fun project. In time I will have a good collection of Humans to populate the Tabletop. Including The Juggers themselves, and a fun selection of Common People.
I have been working on a number of larger scale figures and vehicles that I have yet to share with you. The main reason for this is because these sculptures have been sort of a catch all set of back burner projects which receive left over putty here and there. When a nightly batch of epoxy begins to become to firm for my liking as I work on the tiny details of my small pieces I add form to my large models. I do not like to waste my supplies so I use up the putty on these back burner projects.
I have slowly developed a few of these larger models to a workable Base Shape over the last six months, and as a result I am more inclined to begin focusing on some of my BIG Monsters and Vehicles. The first of these are going to be my Manic Widow-Mech Tech-Hybrid; The Bio Titan, and The NAC War Strider.
Here is a look at the base form for The Manic's Titan, with some basic work done on two of it's Heavy Weapons.
I wanted to have a few very large models in The TOMORROW BLACK Range, and this guy will be the first of them. I love the idea of a model that can toss a tank over or pick up a typical humanoid in one hand...that is some fun gaming in my book.
A Word On Design. I am going to keep the head and arms as separate components for this model, so that I can have some diversity in the look, without sculpting more than one of these Mold Hogging figures, and beside how many of these terrifying things do you need on the tabletop...no more than one or two I should think.
I will post more previews of this model, and start a Preview Series on The NAC War Strider...soon.
The Biosects are an extreme result of The G.E.B.O. (Genetically Engineered Biological Offensive) Campaign launched by NAC in the years after The Awakening. Many decades later, insects of that time, who fed on the dead have become something other...and terrifying.
A Word On Design. I am making a few racial types for this Faction. In addition to The Roach, Fly, and Tank Biosects, I am also working on Ant, Wasp, and Worm species. Many of these sculptures will have multiple parts to give the model a high level of detail and combat diversity. For example Roaches have Scything Arms off of their backs, and the Tanks are a sort of terrible Centaurian being, capable of using Ordinance Weapons with the same ease that a Human fires a Rifle.
I am very pleased with how these sculptures are progressing. I think they may become some of my better pieces.
I am working on several figures this month to get them ready for IWM. The main focus now is to have Body Blanks completed for my six of my core races. This is going to save me a lot of time later when I start to turn master Castings into Units of Troops.
So far I am making progress on all of my Body Blanks. The Huratt War Makers and their War Ratts are just about half completed now.
A Word On Design. I am going to leave the hair undone for the most part on these pieces because it will be easier to bend and repose the models, then come back and do the fur to both strengthen the figures and give each a unique look.
I will be posting more Previews of the other Body Blanks soon.
I thought it would be cool to start the new month and year of postings with a preview of some COMPLETED SCULPTURES...for a change.
I am pleased to share with you a very challenging and yet enjoyable little task; the creation of M.U.R.G. Flies!
Imagine your Enemies Heavy Weapons Unit...the one entrenched in that tall building...way over there...having to deal with a sudden swarm of these Poison Little Devils biting, stinging, and buzzing in their faces. Now your best Martial Troops can get across that field that had been so deadly a moment ago, and do their job in earnest!
A word on Design. I am working on many sculptures similar to these Lovable Buzzing Meanies, such as Huratt Seekers, TECH Nation Drones, and others. All of these tiny sculptures will be afforded the same attention to detail that I give my larger works, including scenic bases.
Well we talked about it at TMP, and made plans. Now it IS Happening.
For the most part, I am going to do what I do here at WAR ART, and keep THE WEEKLY ONE FIVE articles at that Blog. If you have not heard about TW15 yet, I invite you to look at the Blog, and follow it especially if you are interested in learning more about sculpting.
I have a little direct link to TW15 Blog, right there to the right of your monitor, just below Happy Skull...now go on and click it.
